The first shoots of the tala orchid (Chloraea membranacea) have appeared at Lo de Urriza. It flowers from September to December and fruits from November to February.
It is an endangered wild species and very hard to propagate, because it depends on a symbiotic fungus that lives in the roots of tala trees. That is why the Lo de Urriza program focuses on protecting it where it grows naturally.
Today we monitor more than 70 orchids on the grounds. Each plant is tagged and protected with a mesh so we can follow its growth season after season.
